Hello, I'm Ryan

I'm a Canadian who moved to Tokyo, Japan with my family. In Canada I worked as a Power Engineer, but I'm hoping to become a web developer in Japan. This is a placeholder for my portfolio website.

Previous Career

I have over 20 years experience in operations and management in a variety of industries such as; oil and gas, pulp and paper, and utilites. I am a 1st Class Power Engineer and hold a Bachelor of Management.

Japanese Language

I have been studying Japanese for the 3rd time for about 1.5 years, with the last 6 months at a full time language school. Japanese is unfortunately, not something that comes easy for me, but I'm determined to learn it! I wrote and hopefully passed the JLPT N5 in December, I plan to write the N4 and N3 this year. When I am not studying coding, I am studying Japanese!

Hobbies

• Road Biking - In Canada I mountain biked, but Tokyo lacks mountains!
• Photography - I normally shoot street with a Fujifilm X-T5 27mm.
• Vinyl Records - I Love collecting records and going to shows. 90's Indie, punk, new wave, jazz, metal...
• Reading - I love reading English non-fiction/fiction/classics. But lately only Japanese manga for practice!
• Kendo/Kyudo - I hope to try one of these traditional martial arts once I get a job!
